Being A Mentor

As a mentor, you will be giving back to the industry to benefit marketers at all levels. You could help someone taking the first steps in their career or a senior marketer looking to step up to CMO. In doing so, you could make a significant difference in someone's career.

Mentoring benefits both mentor and mentee. Whether you've mentored for years or want to start mentoring for the first time, we’d love to hear from you. We guarantee you’ll learn something new along the way.

Why sign up to be a Mentor?

There's no pressure. Being a mentor is completely your own choice and you should be excited to join. You'll be giving back to others and could make a significant difference in someone's career and life.

What else do I get from the programme?

Alongside the natural satisfaction of doing good you'll also get access to a community of other marketing experts, invites to exclusive events, free use of the MET Marketing city centre office space, discounts from selected partners and an opportunity to grow your own network.

What experience do I need to be a Mentor?

Any marketer who shares our values and is interested in helping others can join MET Mentoring. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and ages. Our in person events are in Yorkshire so it's useful to be local but not essential.

Do I need to have been a mentor previously?

You don't need to have mentored previously, in fact you dont even need to have managed previously. We offer support in how to mentor and have training from the Association of Business Mentors as part of your journey.

How much time will be required?

On average you can expect to spend an hour or so with your mentee 4-8 times over the space of 12 months. Many do this through remote sessions with occasional face-to-face get togethers.

How does the matching process work?

Our matching process is personalised. We ask all participants to list the skills and competencies that they are looking to either learn or share and we match you with a suitable partner. We always do our best to find you the perfect match!

What happens if I don't feel it's a good match?

We do our best to find you the right match but on very occasionally the chemistry might not be the right fit. If either party wants to bring the match to an end, then we will facilitate this in a coordinated manner.

How long will I be in the process?

We support the relationships that we facilitate for a period of up to 12 months. After this point it's up to you how you want your relationship to continue.

What assistance will I get?

We'll run an introduction to mentoring session with you and provide various resources to aide you in your journey throughout a 12 month period. We've also got a partnership with the Association of Business Mentors for those who want to advance their mentoring further.

Can I choose my mentee?

You'll get matched with your mentee based on a number of factors through a human centric personalised proccess. You won't be able to specifically select an individual but we'll do that for you.

What happens if my circumstances or availability changes?

We understand things can happen which make continuing as a mentor more difficult. In these circumstances we can support you in ending your partnership early in a co-ordinated manner.

When will I find out if I've been selected?

We run new cohorts every 3-6 months. We'll be in touch with you a few weeks before running a matching session to reconfirm your availability and then shortly after matching to get the process started and arrange a welcome session for you and your fellow mentors.
